The Chulu is a mountain range in the Himalayas in Nepal .
The Chulu is located in the Damodar Himal north of the Annapurna massif . Manang is located on the southern flank . The Chulu has several peaks. The central peak of the Chulu reaches a height of 6584 m . 1.46 km to the northwest is the 6,419 m high west summit ( ⊙ ), 2.11 km southeast of the 6,429 m high east summit ( ⊙ ). Another 3.3 km east-northeast is the 6,038 m high outer east summit ( Chulu Far East ) ( ⊙ ). There are contradicting information in the literature on the exact height information and also on the names of the four peaks and their location. The central peak is often identified as the west peak. The northern slopes of the Chulu massif are glaciated. East and west peaks are considered trekking peaks (climbing peaks of category "B" of the Nepal Mountaineering Association ), on which several organizers offer mountain tours.
Ascent history
The western summit (probably the central summit) was first climbed in 1952 by a Japanese expedition under Masataka Takagi. In 1955, a German group of mountaineers climbed the summit in the Chulu massif. It is believed that they climbed the Chulu Far East summit. The first ascent of the east summit took place in 1979 by Dick Isherwood and John Noble .
