Chursachsen treasure trove

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Chursachsen was a treasure trove in the Johanngeorgenstadt mountain area in the Saxon Ore Mountains .

location

On the middle Fastenberg , on which Johanngeorgenstadt stretches, several pits were operated in the first period of silver mining in the 17th and 18th centuries for the removal of directly adjacent tunnels . This also included the Chursachsen Stolln , muted on March 10, 1680 by Benedict Drechsler , whose mouth hole on Hammerberg was between the Grace of God Stolln and the St. Georg Stolln at the level of the blast furnace in Wittigsthal . Until his death in 1690, Drechsler had the tunnel driven for about 150 Lachter, but no silver ore was found.

In 1697 the business was stopped and only resumed in 1707. This time Christian Lorenz tried his luck, but he too only encountered barren rock and soon stopped mining. A third attempt between 1716 and 1721 was also unsuccessful. Ultimately, the colliery was combined with the Neu Oberhaus Sachsen Fundgrube on the other side of the Schwarzwassertal and abandoned shortly thereafter.

Until after the Second World War and the reshaping of the area by uranium mining by Wismut AG , the location of the Chursachsen Stolln in the area near Wittigsthal was still clearly visible.
