Cil City is an Austrian female fronted rock band from Vienna . Cil City performed at various festivals including Nova Rock , Full Metal Mountain , Hafen Open Air and Frequency. Cil City was founded in late 2013. The debut album Red Ocean was released on November 7, 2015.

history

Beginnings (2013-2014)

Cil City was founded at the end of 2013 by the musicians Hal West, Volker Weiss, Deniz Malatyali, Erny Hofbauer and Daniel Achter. On December 4th, 2013 Cil City gave the first show in the Viennese club Replugged. In the first year the band played mostly concerts in Vienna. At the same time, work began on their first own songs, which were released on the debut album Red Ocean in 2015 .

Red Ocean album release and tour (2015-2017)

In 2015, Cil City reached the finals of the Local Heroes Bandcontest with their own songs among around 300 participating bands across Austria. At the same time, the studio was working on the recordings together with sound engineer Maciek Dabek. Daniel Achter left the band after recording for Red Ocean - Johannes Hauser joined him as the new drummer. This year the band played at the Hafen Open Air Festival and in the course of the Local Heroes Final on the ARENA Wien Open Air stage. On November 7th, 2015 the debut album Red Ocean was released , supported by a release show in the Aera. The following year Cil City played on the festival stages at Full Metal Mountain, Nova Rock and Frequency, among others.

The album Red Ocean was promoted through various appearances and interviews by the band on various television and radio stations (e.g. ORF, GO TV, OKTO TV, Radio 88.6, Rock Antenne, Radio Orange).

The Freedom Tour 2017 started with a new line-up in spring 2017. After the departure of Volker Weiss on bass and Johannes Hauser on drums, Cornelia Gass and Bernhard Sattra are the new rhythm foundation of the band. With the new line-up, new song material was being worked on parallel to rehearsals for the Freedom Tour. The tour took Cil City again for two shows, as in 2016, to the Full Metal Mountain Festival. The band was also able to book appearances in Germany, at the Nova Rock Festival and support shows for Kontrust , Serious Black and Herman Frank (Ex-Accept). The tour concluded in autumn with the concert in the Vienna Aera, which has meanwhile become a tradition.

Recordings (2018)

In spring 2018, the recording of the new compositions for the next Cil City album began. In order to capture the sound developed the year before, various sound engineers were involved in the project. Cil City played a few shows at the same time as the studio recordings, including at Full Metal Mountain.

Jump off the Cliff album release and tour (2019-2020)

On February 22nd, 2019 the album Jump off the Cliff was released. On the following tour through Austria and Germany, Cil City performed at the Donauinselfest , at the European Bike Week and together with Marco Mendoza ( The Dead Daisies , Whitesnake , Thin Lizzy ) in Hamburg. On September 14, 2019, the band won the Radio 88.6 band contest.
