Hafen Open Air 2014

The Harbor Open Air is a since August 2006 year in the 11th Viennese district Simmering held forming, multi-day music festival focusing on Austropop and rock music . Entry has been free since the festival was founded.

The festival was founded by the Hafenfestival association (association for pop music), which partly consists of the former members of the Austropop band Lichtwärts. The venue is an area next to the Nameless Cemetery at Alberner Hafen . Most of the festival employees work on a voluntary basis. The festival sees itself as a platform to promote Austrian music. Young bands can apply to get one of around 18 performance slots. The Hafen Open Air is financed exclusively through sponsorship, grants and donations. In 2014 a total of 20,000 visitors were counted on both days of the event.

history

The first festival took place in 2006 with the aim of establishing festival culture and Austropop in Simmering. Back then as a one-day event with 200 visitors and a stage that was built by hand, the festival was continuously expanded. With Rainhard Fendrich , Erste Allgemeine Verunsicherung and Wolfgang Ambros , a number of prominent Austropop musicians have been signed as headliners. Over the years, some well-known musicians such as Opus , Stefanie Werger , Reinhold Bilgeri , Mo and Andy Baum and Conchita Wurst have appeared on the festival stage, but young bands such as Lichtwärts or Cornerstone have also performed several times over the years. Since 2013, the festival has been deviating from the purely Austrian orientation - at least as far as the main acts are concerned - and signed the Gipsy Kings (2017 ) with the Spider Murphy Gang (2015), the two-time Eurovision Song Contest winner Johnny Logan (2016) ) or the sons of Mannheim (2019) also international artists for the event.
