Cornerstone is an Austrian rock band from Mödling that was founded in 1998. The group gained greater fame in 2008 when they signed a contract with the US record label ATOM Records, which oversees acts such as Jon Butcher and Barefoot Servants, among others.

history

In the summer of 1998 Steve and Michael Wachelhofer founded a band together with Markus Bousska as drummers, which initially played cover versions of bands such as The Cure and REM . It was at this time that the first self-written titles were written. Despite some initial successes, there were difficulties and member changes in the band, and after some only partially successful appearances and a never-finished studio production, the band was on the verge of collapse in summer 2004. With Hannah Wachter and Anja Schirmer joining the band, the band decided to continue their musical career.

In 2008 Cornerstone released their debut album "Head Over Heels", which received very good reviews from the European and American press and local radio stations. In the same year the band toured Austria and England, where they were also guests on various radio stations, including ARFM-Radio / London with radio legend Steve Price. In 2009 the group completed another concert tour through England - including at the famous Z Rock Festival , together with Ted Poley (including Danger Danger ) and John Waite (Ex- Bad English , Ex- The Babies ) - and through the USA, including several appearances at various TV and radio stations.

In the spring of 2011 the band released their follow-up work "Somewhere in America", the first edition of which was sold out after three weeks, and after the release again performed several concerts in Austria, the surrounding countries and in Great Britain, where Cornerstone was on the line-up of biggest rock events in the country, such as the Rock and Bike Fest together with New Model Army , the Cambridge Rock Festival (with The Animals , Magnum , Hazel O'Connor ) or the Pop Overthrow Festival in Liverpool. At the end of 2013, the release of a cover version of the eighties classic " Smalltown Boy " by the synth pop group Bronski Beat , which landed in the charts. All proceeds from the single went to the English "Room to Breathe" campaign of Nottingham City Hospital to research and combat the metabolic disease cystic fibrosis . In 2016 Cornerstone released their third studio album "Reflections", which was created in Canada in collaboration with music producer Harry Hess ( Simple Plan , Billy Talent , Muse ), followed by a promotional tour of around 30 concerts across Europe. During part of the tour the band was accompanied by Gary Howard, the former head of the Flying Pickets and member of the legendary Alan Parsons Project .

After some line-up changes over the years, a stable core formed with Alina Peter (vocals, guitar) and the founding members Michael and Steve Wachelhofer, but the position of drummer is not permanently occupied. Although Cornerstone has registered its band name internationally as a patented trademark, the name is sometimes used in some music magazines and distribution platforms in combination with a " ® " or "(AT)" (for Austria ) to avoid confusion with another band that is in had also used this name in the past.
