Cinque Terre DOC wine

Cinque Terre and Cinque Terre Sciacchetrà are white wines and sweet wines or fortified wines from the Cinque Terre in the northern Italian province of La Spezia ( Liguria region ). Since May 29, 1973, the wines have had the status of a Denominazione di origine controllata , which was last updated on March 7, 2014.

Growing area

Cultivation is permitted in the municipalities of Riomaggiore , Vernazza and Monterosso al Mare .

Manufacturing

The wines are made from at least 40% Bosco grape variety . A maximum of 40% Albarola and / or Vermentino grapes may be added, as well as a maximum of 20% other analogous grape varieties that are approved for cultivation in the province of La Spezia. The following types of wine are produced in the "sub-zones":

  • Cinque Terre
  • Cinque Terre Costa de Sera
  • Cinque Terre Costa de Campu
  • Cinque Terre Costa da Posa

as well as the

Rack for drying the grapes (for Passito)
  • Cinque Terre Sciacchetrà - a sweet or fortified wine (depending on the aging process). It is also available as “Passito” and “Riserva”. The yield per hectare is a low 31.5 hl / ha due to the winemaking process . Before the alcoholic fermentation , the grapes are dried (partially rosinated, see also the term Passito ). The drying results in high must weights, but the bulk, i.e. the amount of juice per kg of berries, is limited to 30 percent instead of the usual 70 percent. The wine may be sold no earlier than November 1st of the year following the harvest. Sciacchetrà with the label "Riserva" may be placed on the market from November 1st of the third year following the harvest at the earliest.

etymology

Sciacchetrà is called “fortified” (Italian rinforzato , in the Ligurian dialect refursà ) or “sweet” ( vino dolce , in the dialect dùse ) in Italian . The etymology is uncertain, but is mainly derived from the word for "crush / pound" (Italian. "Schiacciare", dialect sciacàa ).
