Cinque Torri

The Cinque Torri (German: five towers ) are a rock formation up to 2361  m slm high in the Dolomites on the route between the Falzarego Pass and Cortina d'Ampezzo .

The Cinque Torri consist of steep towers that originally formed a whole large boulder. The five main towers, the namesake, are called Torre Grande , Torre Seconda , Torre Latina , Torre Quarta and Torre Inglese , although different names are common. The tallest is the 2361  m high Torre Grande, which, in addition to the main summit Cima Nord, also has the side towers Cima Sud and Cima Ovest . At the beginning of June 2004 a craggy, 50 m high rock needle called Trephor collapsed due to natural erosion .

The Cinque Torri are a popular destination for hikers and climbers and thanks to numerous routes from the III. Degree of difficulty developed. There are several shelters in the area , including the Rifugio Cinque Torri ( 2137  m ), named after the towers, and the Rifugio Scoiattoli ( 2255  m ).

An open-air museum with replica rifle positions recalls the fighting during the First World War below the Cinque Torri between Austria and Italy.
