The Fly Agaric Circus is a German-Swiss circus .

It was founded in 1981 by Beatrix Hölscher-Stockmann from Lucerne (Switzerland) and Bodo Hölscher from Bad Segeberg (Germany) and traveled from 1981 to 1986 in Switzerland and then in Germany , the Netherlands , Belgium , Luxembourg and France .

The sons Lars and Sven got into the circus, Lars as an animal trainer, Sven as an artist and tent master. The company was based in Esperde , from 1992 in Lucerne. The winter quarters had been in Haldensleben since 2000 .

The circus became famous for its concept "Circus under water", with which he has been traveling since 1992. In 2004 Eva Renzi and her daughter Anouschka Renzi performed in the circus. The circus attracted nationwide attention with the pygmy hippopotamus Elsbeth, which escaped in mid-August 1990 and stayed for a week in the floods of the Pegnitz near Fürth. Countless attempts to catch the animal failed.

Since spring 2007 the circus has been on the road with a reduced fleet and without the water circus. The program also included exceptional animal training by the Hölscher family, such as B. a performance with pigs and the pygmy hippopotamus Elsbeth, which caused a sensation a few years earlier with its spectacular escape from the circus, as well as clowns from Russia.

In the 2007 season, some of Lars Hölscher's in-house animal training sessions were featured in the Probst Circus program. B. the elephant dressage and the exotic tableau with camels, zebras, rhinoceros, giraffes and exotic cattle. The 28th tour in 2008 was announced under the title “People - Animals - Aquations”. In 2007, the Variété theater Circus Fly Agaric was deleted from the commercial register in Lucerne due to the closure of its business. In 2009 the circus announced a guest performance in Salzgitter . Sven Hölscher, the son of Beatrix Hölscher-Stockmann and Bodo Hölscher, founded the "Circus Galliano" with Stephanie Reim in 2009.

In 2012, the Hölscher family tried again to reactivate gaming operations. Guest performances with their own animal population were carried out in a one-mast tent, among other things.
