Philippe Huttenlocher

Philippe Huttenlocher (born November 29, 1942 in Neuchâtel ) is a Swiss concert and opera singer ( baritone ) and conductor .

Life

Huttenlocher first studied violin in Neuchâtel, then singing with Juliette Bise at the Conservatory in Friborg . In 1967 he received his concert diploma with distinction. In 1972 he won first prize at the International Singing Competition in Bratislava .

Huttenlocher first worked with the Ensemble vocal de Lausanne under Michel Corboz , from 1974 there was close collaboration with Helmuth Rilling , and since 1990 with the Musiciens du Louvre under Marc Minkowski . He made his stage debut in 1978 at the Zurich Opera House in the Monteverdi cycle with the title role in L'Orfeo . Other opera roles included a. Lucano in Monteverdi's L'incoronazione di Poppea , Eumete in Monteverdi's Il ritorno d'Ulisse in patria , Valentin in Gounod's Faust , Guglielmo in Mozart's Così fan tutte and Golaud in Debussy's Pelléas et Mélisande . Huttenlocher is known for his interpretations of Bach . His artistic work is documented by numerous CD recordings, mostly of sacred music. Since 1994 he has also worked as a choir and orchestra conductor.

In the 1991 feature film Europa by Danish director Lars von Trier , Huttenlocher sings the theme music Europa Aria together with Nina Hagen .

Huttenlocher lives in Neuchâtel and is married to the soprano Danielle Borst .
