Cité du Vin

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Cité du Vin is a French tourism project in Bordeaux that combines a viticulture museum and an amusement park on the subject of wine and aims to address olfactory and gustatory perception in a playful way . It was opened in May 2016 in the presence of French President François Hollande . Bordeaux, along with the surrounding wine-growing region, belongs to the international wine marketing association Great Wine Capitals , a wine network of renowned cities, each of which includes a characteristic wine-growing region of the respective country. In addition to the Bordeaux wine-growing region , this network also includes cities and regions such as Bilbao: Rioja , Mainz: Rheinhessen , Christchurch: South Island (New Zealand) , Florence: Tuscany , Cape Town: Cape Winelands , Mendoza: Mendoza , Porto: Douro Valley and San Francisco: Napa Valley .

building

The Cité du Vin is being built in Bacalan, a northern district of Bordeaux, on the left bank of the Garonne in the "Port de la Lune" district. Construction of the foundations began in January 2014. 300 inserts with a diameter of 50–120 cm were drilled into the ground in order to get the building anchored in hard rock up to 30 meters deep. 9,000 m 3 of concrete and 4,000 m 2 of formwork panels were necessary for the shell construction.

The building is equipped with 2,500 reflective aluminum panels on the facade of the 55 meter high tower of the building. It is supposed to make you feel like shiny wine in a glass. The Cité du Vin can be reached with line B of the Bordeaux tram , which serves the train station in the southwestern suburb of Pessac towards the city center as far as the left bank of the Garonne, which it follows to the terminal at Claveau.

financing

A budget of 63 million euros was originally calculated for the Cité , which, according to project manager Philippe Massol, was already exceeded by an expected 14.5 million euros at the end of 2014.

Funding is provided by the European Union , Bordeaux Métropole , the Aquitaine region , the Conseil interprofessionnel des vins de Bordeaux, the state , the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Chambre de commerce et d'industrie de Bordeaux) and the city of Bordeaux with a share of 31 million euros financed.
