City of Chester was a district with City status in the county of Cheshire in England . In addition to the city of Chester , it included a large, rural area with numerous small villages, of which Malpas and Tarvin were the most important.
The District was formed on April 1, 1974 and was created from the merger of the County Borough of Chester and the Rural Districts of Chester and Tarvin. On April 1, 2009, it was dissolved due to a territorial and administrative reform and went on in the new Unitary Authority Cheshire West and Chester .
