Ellesmere Port and Neston was a district with borough status in the county of Cheshire in England . It comprised the southern part of the Wirral Peninsula between the Mersey and Dee rivers . The administrative seat was the city of Ellesmere Port , in which about three quarters of the population lived. The rest of the district was rural, other significant places were Parkgate and Neston . There was a town partnership with Reutlingen .
The District was formed on April 1, 1974 and was the result of the merger of the Borough of Ellesmere Port and the Urban District Neston. On April 1, 2009, it was dissolved due to a territorial and administrative reform and went on in the new Unitary Authority Cheshire West and Chester .
