history

The place was first mentioned in reliable documents in 1109 as the castle of the Ardengheschi , who owned the Badia Ardenghesca Abbey (Abbazia di San Lorenzo al Lanzo) in the nearby Lanzo Valley . Possibly the place was mentioned as Civitella in documents of the place Sticciano as early as 988 , here the assignment is uncertain. In the middle of the 12th century the place was the political center of the Ardengheschi, but as early as 1167 and 1179 the counts of the castle of the Republic of Siena submitted. In 1271, Siena placed the Podestà in the village , but nine years later the Ghibellines rebelled against Siena, which was ruled by the Guelfs. In 1299 Civitella again submitted to the government of Siena. In 1314 a certain Longaruccio , a fled Senese and close to the Tolomei, made a pact with Pisa , but Siena bought the place in 1317.

The places Pari and Casale di Pari belonged to the municipality of Campagnatico until 1920 when they became the municipality of Pari. Six years later Pari was merged with Paganico. The new municipality of Civitella Paganico was established on February 5, 1928.
