Clara Francisca Antonetta von Westerholt zu Lembeck (* 1694 ; † September 18, 1763 in Langenhorst ) was abbess at Freckenhorst Abbey .

Life

Origin and family

Clara Francisca Antonetta was the daughter of Dietrich Konrad von Westerholt zu Lembeck (1658-1702) and his wife Maria Theodora von Waldbott zu Bassenheim of an old Westphalian noble family . The remodeling of Lembeck Castle between 1670 and 1734 was largely under the direction of Clara Fransica's parents. The gateway to the castle therefore bears their common coat of arms. Clara Francisca had four sisters who all married into a count family.

Career and work

Clara Francisca had owned Langenhorst Abbey since March 19, 1719 , when she was elected abbess in Freckenhorst by the convent on December 9, 1721 . This choice was contested in a lengthy and costly process that panned through 1726. She signed the electoral surrender on December 20, 1721 , which was confirmed by the Ordinary on January 8, 1722 . With a considerable delay, the ceremonial entry did not take place until November 5, 1743. The reason for this was the dilapidated abbey building and the long approval process for the new building. The Vicariate General received the petition from Prince-Bishop Clemens August on January 14, 1738 and urged the chapter for approval, which was finally granted on June 18. This was subject to the condition that the liabilities of 6,000 Reichstalers had to be paid off within 12 years. Clara Francisca was unable to repay the loans, resulting in a process in which the chapter received a number of abbey goods. This worsened the financial situation in the abbey. A settlement was reached in a further process. The abbess received an annual income of 7,000 Reichstalers in cash and in kind. The chapter kept the goods and the income. It left a significant burden of debt.

The new abbey building still stands today and bears the coat of arms of the abbess Clara Francisca. The successor in office was Francisca Lucia von Korff zu Harkotten and Störmede .
