Clara Montalba

Clara Fredrica Montalba (born August 2, 1840 in Cheltenham , Gloucestershire , † August 13, 1929 in Venice ) was an English watercolor painter .

Life

She was the eldest of four daughters of Anthony Rubens Montalba from Sweden and Emeline Davies . From 1867 to 1869 she was a student of Eugène Isabey in Paris . From 1874 she painted in London and Venice at the Accademia di belle arti . In 1874 she became a member of the Royal Watercolor Society , in 1876 of the Société nationale des aquarellistes et pastellistes in Belgium and in 1879 of the Hollandsche Teekenmaatschappij in The Hague . The early suffragette Millicent Garrett Fawcett named her in 1886 as one of twenty women who had supported the "warm help and support" movement. She and her sister Henrietta Montalba were friends with the Princess Louise .
