Clara Walter studied interior design at the Ostwestfalen-Lippe University of Applied Sciences in Detmold until 2014 .

After the death of the Brandenburg humorist Loriot , the local cultural association in Brandenburg an der Havel launched an anonymous public competition to find a monument in his hometown in his honor. From the more than 100 submitted designs, Clara Walter's design Der wilde Waldmops was chosen for realization. Based on the sketch of the same name, the monument includes bronze "life-size" forest pug sculptures that were set up in public spaces and blend in with the cityscape. On April 17, 2015, the so-called Waldmopszentrum was opened by the Federal Foreign Minister and chairman of the Brandenburg cultural association, Frank-Walter Steinmeier . The bronze sculptures, Clara Walter's first work , were officially handed over to the city of Brandenburg an der Havel. Since the installation of the first sculptures, they quickly became very popular with the population, so that further sculptures , partly financed by private donors, were commissioned from Walter. In January 2016, 13 forest mop sculptures were already "released" in the city. According to plans, it should be 25 to 30 in the course of a circular route .

Walter has her studio in Berlin.

criticism

The animal welfare organization PETA criticized the work of art in 2015. Deutschlandradio Kultur described PETA's position in this context: “Pugs are the epitome of torture breeding . In addition to a whole range of hereditary diseases, breathing problems in particular would cause them. Life as a pug is possible, say the animal rights activists, following Loriot, but joyless. "
