Clarence Mak

Clarence Mak ( Chinese  麥 偉 鑄  /  麦 伟 铸 , Pinyin Mài Wěizhù , Jyutping Mak 6 Wai 5 zyu 3 , * 1959 in Hong Kong ) is a Chinese composer .

Life

Mak obtained the LRSM from the Royal Schools of Music in London in 1980 and the Diploma of Musica En Composetela in Spain in 1981. He received a Bachelor of Arts in Music from the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) in 1984 . This was followed in 1987 with a Master of Music in Composition from Pennsylvania State University in the USA. He also studied at the Center for Computer Research in Music and Acoustics at Stanford University . From 1987 to 1994 he was an assistant professor of music at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (HKAPA). In 1994 he became a professor of music there. Since 1998 he has been the head of the computer and electronic music department at the academy. Stephen Yip and Pang Chun-ting are among his students . His compositions have been performed in Europe, Japan, China, Taiwan and Australia. Recordings were made with the Hong Kong Composers' Guild . He worked on school music for the 2002 World Music Days education campaign in Hong Kong .
