Clarion is the county seat of Clarion County in the US state of Pennsylvania with a good 6,000 inhabitants, which is about a seventh of the total population of the county. The distance to Pittsburgh is approximately 160 km in a south-southwest direction.
The city has an area of 3.9 km² . It is located on Interstate 80 , the second longest interstate highway in the United States, a little east of the center of the county, borders in the northeast on the Highland Township and is otherwise surrounded by Clarion Township .
The city was settled in 1839 and was officially founded two years later. The Clarion County Courthouse is listed on the National Register of Historic Places .
