Clas Jonas Theodor Odhner , also Klas Teodor Odhner , (born June 17, 1836 in the rural municipality of Alingsås , † June 11, 1904 in Stockholm ) was a Swedish historian.

Life

Odhner studied at the University of Uppsala , where he in 1860 to filosofie magister received his doctorate and was appointed lecturer of history. Appointed adjunct at Lund University in 1865 , he was able to take over the professorship for history in 1871. From 1887 to 1901 he worked as a Reich archivist and, among other things, had to manage the move of the Reich Archives to a new building. Odhner worked in several committees for reforming the education system, in particular for the revision of the textbooks, and also wrote textbooks on Swedish history, which were widely distributed. From 1893 to 1897 Odhner was a member of parliament for Stockholm in the second chamber of the Swedish Reichstag , where he campaigned for free trade.

Odhner was appointed to the Kungliga Vitterhets Historie och Antikvitets Academies in 1872 , to the Royal Science and Literature Society in Gothenburg in 1879 and to the Royal Society of Sciences in Uppsala in 1882. In 1885 he was admitted to Chair 5 of the Swedish Academy , and in 1888 to the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences . The University of Lund awarded him an honorary doctorate in 1900 .

Odhner was married to Emma Knös, a daughter of the theologian Anders Erik Knös . One of her sons was the zoologist Theodor Odhner .
