Claude Antoine Compère

Claude Antoine Compère (born May 21, 1774 in Châlons-sur-Marne , † September 7, 1812 in Borodino ) was a French général de brigade .

Life

Compère was the younger son of the administrator Louis-Quentin Compère; General Louis Henri Compère (1768-1833) was his older brother. Enthusiastic about the ideals of the revolution , Compère joined the army in 1789 and became an enthusiastic supporter of Napoleon from an early age .

In some battles, Compère was able to excel through bravery and was also promoted very quickly.

In 1812 Compère was able to take part in Napoleon's Russian campaign with the rank of general. He fought near Mir (July 9/10, 1812), Ostrowno (July 25, 1812), Klyastitsy (July 29 / August 1, 1812) and Smolensk (August 17/18, 1812). Compère was killed in the Battle of Borodino (September 7, 1812) and found his final resting place on the edge of the battlefield.
