Claude Lanzmann: Specters of the Shoah ( CL: SotS for short ) is a documentary short film about the work of Claude Lanzmann , his work Shoah , from 2015 by Adam Benzine . The film was nominated for Best Documentary Short at the 2016 Academy Awards.

The plot in CL: SotS is limited to the stories of Claude Lanzmann, who speaks about his work on the Shoah . Lanzmann explains his personal development over the course of the 12 years that the production of his film took, the emotional challenges that he had to deal with and overcome during this time. Lanzmann also reports on a phase of depression in which suicide seemed possible for him as a way out.

Claude Lanzmann: Specters of the Shoah via was Kickstarter.com funded, with Adam Benzine even a quarter of the target sum of 200,000 US dollars earned. After his personal confrontation with the Shoah in 2011, Benzine's motivation resulted from the discovery that Claude Lanzmann's life, despite his cinematic achievement, was not himself prepared as a film. The shooting of CL: SotS then lasted three years and accompanied Lanzmann from the age of 88 to 90. Some scenes in the film are unseen outtakes from the Shoah .

The film was co-produced by Jet Black Iris America and ZDF / Arte .
