Claude Stratz
Claude Stratz (born May 7, 1946 in Zurich ; † April 4, 2007 in Paris ) was a Swiss director who staged over 30 theater and opera performances in Geneva and Paris.
life and work
Stratz studied psychology in Geneva. After graduating, he was assistant to the psychology professor Jean Piaget . In the early 1970s he attended courses at the Geneva Conservatory and played at the Nouveau Théâtre de Poche in Geneva. Two productions made him very well known: The Bacchae by Euripides 1975 and a year later Tamerlan based on Christopher Marlowe . In 1978 he performed " Woyzeck " by Georg Büchner .
1981 to 1988 he was assistant director at the Théâtre des Amandiers in Nanterre . During this period he directed two performances for the Comédie de Genève : Le Legs and L'Epreuve by Marivaux in 1985, then Le Suicidé by Nicolaj Erdmann in 1987. In 1988 he succeeded Benno Besson as director of the Comédie de Genève . His theater programming was a springboard for young talents (e.g. Omar Porras ). In 1989 he directed "Chacun son idée" by Pirandello , in 1990 Julius Caesar by Shakespeare and in 1992 Le Pain major by Paul Claudel . 1999–2001 he directed the École supérieure d'art dramatique at the Geneva Conservatory.
In 2001 he was appointed director of the Conservatoire d'art dramatique in Paris. He held this office until his death.
Outside the French-speaking world, he made a guest appearance in 2004 with the production The Imaginary Sick by Molière .
