Claus Pándi

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Claus Pándi (* 1966 in Vienna ) is an Austrian journalist . From 2009 to 2018 he headed the domestic politics department of the Kronen Zeitung . In 2018 he became editor-in-chief of the Salzburg-Krone .

Career

As a teenager, Pándi worked for the Carinthian Summer , where he met the editor of the "Krone", Hans Dichand . He was looking for young talent and is said to have invited the journalism enthusiast to work for him. Pándi accepted the offer and initially worked as an editor in various departments until Dichand sent him to Vorarlberg in 1987 . It was the federal state with the lowest readership, and Pándi was about to change that. Despite his failure, Dichand stuck to him, he was entrusted with the management of the chronicle department, and in 2009 he even became the newspaper's new head of domestic affairs.

Pándi's management style was and is controversial. He was said to be very close to SPÖ Chancellor Werner Faymann , and he was even involved in preliminary meetings at the Chancellery. Critics even called him the "court clerk" of the SPÖ or its chancellor. The Styrian governor Franz Voves , who was one of Faymann's opponents, on the other hand, was mocked and sharply criticized as a kernel oil socialist.

As editor-in-chief of the Salzburg-Krone , he succeeded Hans Peter Hasenöhrl.

Private

Pándi isolates his private life as best he can from the public. It is known that his parents came to Austria as Hungarian refugees and that he grew up in modest circumstances, mostly without a father. Krone publisher Dichand is said to have been a mentor for him . With colleagues outside the Krone world, he is “charming, well-read and friendly” , within the Krone walls he is considered “clever, talented, as a brand - a team player, but he is not an integration figure” , writes the Viennese , for example City newspaper Falter . Dichand should once said about him: "The Pandi is one that goes in behind you in the revolving door and comes out in front of you again, a typical Hungarian." He was in second marriage with Angelika Feigl, spokesperson of Chancellor Werner Faymann , married; the later SPÖ Chancellery Minister Josef Ostermayer was the best man.
