Claus Sørensen

Claus Haugaard Sørensen (born August 12, 1951 ) is a Danish EU official and has been Director General of the European Commission's Humanitarian Aid and Civil Protection Directorate-General since 2011 .

Claus Sørensen studied economics with a bachelor's degree at the University of Copenhagen in 1972 and a master's degree from the University of Aarhus in 1977. He then entered the Danish diplomatic service. From 1981 to 1985 he was a member of the Danish representation at the Organization for Economic Cooperation (ECO) and from 1988 to 1989 at the European Union (EU).

Sørensen has been working for the EU since 1990, first from 1990 to 1994 in the cabinet of Vice-President of the European Commission Henning Christophersen and from 1995 to 1999 of EU Commissioner Anita Gradin , then as head of cabinet of EU Commissioners Poul Nielson (1999 to 2003) and Mariann Fischer Boel from 2004 to 2006. He then headed the General Directorate for Communication until 2011 and from July 1, 2011 the General Directorate for Humanitarian Aid and Civil Protection.
