Claus Wolf (monument conservator)

Claus Wolf (* 1959 in Sigmaringen ) is a German prehistoric expert and head of the Baden-Württemberg State Office for Monument Preservation in the Stuttgart Regional Council .

Life

Wolf grew up in Sigmaringen, attended the old grammar school, later graduated from the Hohenzollern grammar school and lived there until his military service. From 1980 to 1991 he studied prehistory and early history, classical archeology, ancient history, Egyptology and geography at the University of Freiburg im Breisgau . There he received his doctorate in prehistoric and early historical archeology in 1991. After completing his doctorate, he became head of the "Large Linear Excavations" department in the Swiss canton of Vaud and in 2001 switched to the cantonal archaeologist in Friborg, Switzerland , where he headed the Archeology Office of the canton of Friborg , where he was on the board of the Conference of Swiss Cantonal Archaeologists and im Board of Trustees for the promotion of monument preservation in Switzerland. In 2004 he also took over the management of the Musée Romain de Vallon . He has made a special contribution to successful cross-border collaboration with German archaeologists on the edge of the Alps. Since 2006 he has been teaching archeology at the Swiss University of Friborg , since February 2010 as adjunct professor . He has been chairman of the jury for the Baden-Württemberg Archeology Prize since 2010 .

On July 1, 2010, Wolf became head of the Baden-Württemberg State Office for Monument Preservation in the Stuttgart Regional Council in Esslingen. As department president, he is the successor to Dieter Planck , who left office in September 2009. With effect from July 1, 2019, Claus Wolf also took over the management of the Archaeological State Museum Baden-Württemberg .

Wolf has three children and lives with his family in Stuttgart.
