Location of the Clausewitz barracks in Saxony-Anhalt

The Clausewitz barracks is a barracks of the armed forces southeast of the center of the city castle . In the time of the GDR it was called Waldfrieden-Kaserne. It was renamed in 1993 after Carl von Clausewitz .

location

The Clausewitz barracks are located around two kilometers north of the federal motorway 2 . The federal highway 246a runs to the west and the industrial and commercial park of the city of Burg is located. The on- site practice area is located further west of the B246a . In the east there is forest and around four kilometers east of the town of Grabow . To the north there is a (reserve) exit to the L52 in the direction of Burg and Grabow.

history

The barracks were built when the Wehrmacht was rearming in 1937. In 1938 operations as an air base began. In 1945 it was partially demolished after being destroyed in the war. From 1946 it was temporarily converted into refugee accommodation. It was used as a barracks again since 1949, first by the barracked people's police , then from 1956 by the NVA and since it was taken over in 1990 by the Bundeswehr . It is the third barracks in the history of the city since 1772 and the last remaining in military use.
