Clavija is a genus from the subfamily of the Theophrastoideae in the family Primulaceae (Primulaceae). With 55 species it is the largest genus of the subfamily Theophrastoideae.
description
Clavija species are un- or weakly branched shrubs or small trees . The large to very large leaves are serrated on the edge, rarely spiky-serrated.
Lateral racemose inflorescences with many to a few flowers are formed. The fragrant, unisexual or hermaphrodite flowers are five or four-fold. The crown is cup-shaped, orange, the appendages of the crown protrude and are elongated. The stamens are often united in a tube, the anthers are obtuse-triangular. Unusually for the subfamily, Clavija species usually have fewer than thirty ovules .
The fruit is a berry , almost round and mostly bare, the pericarp is usually thin and wrinkled.
distribution
The genus is native to Central and South America as well as Haiti , it reaches altitudes of 2000 to 2500 meters, mostly they colonize wet, evergreen forests, only rarely deciduous forests.

- Clavija glandulifera Cuatrec. : It occurs in Colombia.
- Clavija jelskii Szyszył. : It was first described from Peru.
- Clavija latifolia (Willd.) K. Koch : It occurs in Colombia.
- Clavija nutans (Vell.) B.Ståhl : It was first described from Brazil.
- Clavija ornata D.Don : It occurs in Colombia, Ecuador and Venezuela and is a neophyte in Trinidad.
