Clayton John Zane (born July 12, 1977 in Newcastle ) is a former Australian soccer player , who played mainly in Norway and Belgium and for the Australian national soccer team.

Career

In his youth, Zane played with the Cessnock Hornets and the Adamstown Rosebuds . In 1995 he moved to the Newcastle Breakers, for whom he played 70 times and scored 17 goals. In the summer of 1998 he signed a contract with Northern Spirit from Sydney . In 30 games he scored three goals. In 2000 he worked for Molde FK in Norway for one year , and in 2001 he moved to Lillestrøm SK , for whom he scored 18 goals in 29 games and was the top scorer in 2001. He was also voted best player of the season. Zane ended his career in 2005 at RSC Anderlecht in Belgium, for which he was active for three years, but only appeared ten times and scored two goals.

For the Australian national team , Zane played 16 times between 2000 and 2001 and scored six goals. In 2001 he was a member of the squad for the Confederations Cup , in 2000 he won the OFC Nations Cup when he came on for Craig Foster in the 80th minute . At the 2000 Olympic Games , he also ran for Australia.
