Cleistocactus chotaensis is a species of plant in the genus Cleistocactus from the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet chotaensis means 'from the place where it was found on the Rio Chota / Peru'.

description

Cleistocactus chotaensis grows shrubby with prostrate, somewhat spreading, gray-green shoots and reaches heights of up to 2 meters with diameters of 3.5 to 4.5 centimeters. There are 11 to 13 ribs that are divided into cusps . The straight thorns are brown and have a darker tip. The 3 to 8 central spines are sub-sub and 1.5 to 6 inches long. The 8 to 12, to 1 centimeter long radial spines are thick needle-like.

The orange-colored flowers are up to 5 centimeters long and have a diameter of 2.5 centimeters. Your pericarpell is covered with scales with black hair.

Distribution and systematics

Cleistocactus chotaensis is common in the Peruvian regions of Cajamarca and La Libertad in the valley of the Río Chota . It was first described in 1904 by Robert Roland-Gosselin . Cleistocactus chotaensis is possibly just a synonym for Cleistocactus sepium .
