Cleistocactus erectispinus is a species of plant in the genus Cleistocactus from the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet erectispinus means 'with erect spines'.

description

Cleistocactus erectispinus grows with prostrate to arched shoots that reach a length of up to 60 centimeters with a diameter of up to 3 centimeters. There are 16 ribs . The thin, brittle central spines are directed upwards, pointed yellow and up to 3 centimeters long. The very numerous, thin, protruding radial spines are up to 1.5 millimeters long.

Nothing is known about the flowers and the fruits .

Distribution and systematics

Cleistocactus erectispinus is common in the Peruvian region of Lima in a side valley of the Río Huaura at altitudes of 2000 to 2400 meters. It was first described as Loxanthocereus erectispinus in 1956 by Werner Rauh and Curt Backeberg . Carlos Ostolaza placed it in the genus Cleistocactus in 2003 . Cleistocactus erectispinus is possibly a natural hybrid between the genera Cleistocactus and Espostoa .
