Cleistocactus fieldianus is a species of plant in the genus Cleistocactus from the cactus family(Cactaceae).

description

Cleistocactus fieldianus grows shrubby to tree-shaped with upright or semi-prostrate shoots branching at the base . It often forms thickets and reaches heights of 3 to 6 meters with a diameter of up to 8 centimeters. There are 5 to 9 ribs , which are often divided into clearly separated, elongated cusps . The large areoles on it are separated from each other by notches. The 1 to 3 strong, whitish central spines are up to 4 centimeters long. The 6 to 8 radial spines are whitish, of different lengths and lengths of up to 1 centimeter.

The red flowers are 6 to 8 inches long. Your bracts are wide opening. The spherical fruits reach a diameter of up to 4 centimeters.

Distribution, systematics and endangerment

Cleistocactus fieldianus is common in the Peruvian regions of Cajamarca , La Libertad , Ancash and Lima at altitudes of 1000 to 3200 meters. It was first described as Borzicactus fieldianus in 1923 by Nathaniel Lord Britton and Joseph Nelson Rose . David Richard Hunt placed them in the genus Cleistocactus in 1987 .

  • Cleistocactus fieldianus subsp. samnensis
  • Cleistocactus fieldianus subsp. tessellatus

In the Red List of Threatened Species of the IUCN , the species is listed as " Least Concern (LC) ". H. listed as not endangered. The subspecies were not recorded separately.
