Cleistocactus sextonianus is a species of plant in the genus Cleistocactus from the cactus family(Cactaceae).
description
Cleistocactus sextonianus grows shrubby with mostly prostrate, underground shoots and reaches lengths of up to 1.5 meters with a diameter of 3 centimeters. There are about 13 ribs . The small areoles are close together. The thin, radiating spines are pink to yellow to brown and are difficult to distinguish between central and radial spines. The 1 to 3 central spines are up to 3 centimeters long, the 8 to 30 radial spines up to 5 millimeters long.
The very crooked, red flowers are 5 to 6 centimeters (rarely up to 8 centimeters) long. Your pericarpel and the flower tube are loosely covered with brown wool. The more or less spherical, green fruits reach a diameter of 1.5 to 2 centimeters.
Distribution, systematics and endangerment
Cleistocactus sextonianus is common in the Peruvian regions of Ica , Ayacucho and Arequipa at altitudes of 200 to 1500 meters. The first description as Erdisia sextoniana was in 1936 by Curt Backeberg . David Richard Hunt placed them in the genus Cleistocactus in 2003 .
In the Red List of Threatened Species of the IUCN , the species is called " Data Deficient (DD) ", i. H. with insufficient data.
