Clemens Leonhard

Clemens Leonhard (born May 24, 1967 in Vienna ) is a German Roman Catholic theologian , liturgical scholar and university professor .

Life

From 1985 to 1992 he studied Catholic theology, English, the languages ​​of the ancient Near East and Jewish studies, graduating with a master's degree in theology and from 1992 to 1993 ancient languages ​​of the Middle East and Jewish studies at the Department of Near Eastern Studies at the University of Toronto , graduating as Master of Arts . From 1993 to 2004 he was an assistant at the Institute for Liturgical Studies, studying rabbinical literature with Günter Stemberger . After completing his doctorate in 1999 at the Catholic theological faculty of the University of Vienna , he received from 2001 to 2004 the research grant “APART” (Austrian Program for Advanced Research and Technology) from the Austrian Academy of Sciences for a project on the history of Pesach and Easter. From 2004 to 2005 he conducted research in Bonn (research fellowship from the Humboldt Foundation “Jewish meal community, dessert prayer and Eucharist”). From 2005 to 2006 he was professor for liturgical science in Münster . After completing his habilitation in liturgical science at the University of Bonn in 2005 , he has been a professor at the seminar for liturgical science at the University of Münster since 2006 .

His main research interests are Jewish and Christian liturgies - connections, parallels, identity and alterity, Christian liturgies in antiquity: their shape, interpretations and historical contexts and liturgies of the Syrian churches.
