Clemens Neuhaus

Clemens Neuhaus (born June 25, 1927 in Munster (Örtze) , † June 9, 1991 ibid) was a German painter who specialized in motifs from the Lüneburg Heath .

Life

He was the son of the eponymous tobacco wholesaler and pianist Clemens Neuhaus and Minna Kappenberg. Neuhaus attended grammar school in Uelzen from 1937 to 1943 and was then employed as an anti-aircraft helper at Zeven until shortly before the end of the Second World War . After 1956 he studied at the Hamburg University of Fine Arts and briefly at the Munich Academy of Fine Arts . In the 1960s, like his father, he ran a tobacco wholesaler in his hometown of Munster.

His paintings were exhibited during his lifetime not only in his homeland, but also in Worpswede , Bremen , Tewel and Soltau . Even after his death, his pictures were widely distributed through greeting cards and annual calendars, which were published from 1983 to 2011 by the SKV-Edition publishing house in Lahr.

Neuhaus married Helga Vock from Hamburg in 1948, from which his only son Marius emerged († 2006), but the marriage was divorced in 1955/1956. In 1962 he married Hannelore Borgmann from Dortmund, who divorced him around 1968. Finally, he married his long-time lover, the Danish Henny Bjoern († 2012) from near Esbjerg , with whom he lived until his death, in his third marriage .

Neuhaus is buried in the forest cemetery in Munster (Örtze).

Services

Neuhaus is one of the most important heather painters of the 20th century. A special feature is that he portrayed the heather in all seasons. But he also painted other, especially maritime motifs. Jutland village views as well as half-length pictures.
