The Kasereck belongs with its 2740  m above sea level. A. to the highest peaks of the Schladminger Tauern and thus also the Niedere Tauern . It is the most prominent peak in the ridge by Hochgolling draws and to the south the Göriach Valley in the west by Lessachtal separates the east. Geographically, this mountain is in Salzburg and is easiest to reach from Göriach im Lungau .

Below the mountain is the Piendlsee ( 2033  m ). The easiest ascent leads from the Göriacher Winkel from the Piendlalm over the Piendlsee and the southwest ridge and the western flank to the summit.
