Clemens Graf von Looz-Corswarem

Clemens (Graf) von Looz-Corswarem (born January 30, 1947 in Koblenz ) is a German historian and archivist . From 1988 to 2012 he was director of the Düsseldorf City Archives .

Life

Count Clemens comes from the Belgian noble family Looz-Corswarem and studied history, German and art history in Bonn and Münster . In 1976 he did his doctorate on a topic of Cologne's local history. Initially, he worked at the Institute for Comparative Urban History and was an assistant at the University of Münster. He then completed his training as a trainee lawyer for the State of North Rhine-Westphalia in Marburg , and then worked at the Historical Archive of the City of Cologne from 1982 to 1985 . After all, he had been working at the Düsseldorf City Archives since 1985 and took over its management in 1988 as the successor to Hugo Weidenhaupt . In this function he not only published numerous essays and writings, but also taught at the Heinrich Heine University in Düsseldorf. In 1997 Looz-Corswarem became honorary professor at Heinrich Heine University. Since 1995 he has been a member of the board of directors of the Düsseldorfer Geschichtsverein and has been deputy chairman and editor of the Düsseldorfer Jahrbuch since 1989. Benedikt Mauer became his successor as head of the Düsseldorf City Archives.
