Clemmons is a city in Forsyth County , North Carolina in the United States . It is a suburb of Winston-Salem . According to the official census of 2010, the village had 18,627 inhabitants with a population density of 673 inhabitants per km².
history
The city of Clemmons was founded in 1802 by Peter Clemmons . He directed the construction of the first building and opened a shop. His former property still exists today. Edwin T. Clemmons (1826 to 1896) was the great-grandson of Peter Clemmons and a well-known entrepreneur. He operated carriage rides from large cities such as Winston-Salem to Clemmons. Through these transport connections, it offered the residents many new economic opportunities.
In the 1870s, Clemmons was connected to the railroad network, with the result that Edwin T. Clemmons had to relocate his carriage business to Asheville , North Carolina. Shortly before his death he returned to Clemmons and donated a lot of money to have a church and a school built.
Since then, the city has developed well. Today over 18,000 people already live in Clemmons and the city is developing rapidly.
Demographics
At the population census in 2000, the city had 13,827 inhabitants, 5,291 households. 3,947 families lived in the city. The population density was 499 / km². Of the 5,291 households, 36.3% had children under the age of 18. 64.5% of the householders were married couples and 7.7% were women living alone or with a single husband. The average household size was 2.56 and the average family size was 2.97.
Around a quarter of the residents were under 18 years old, 6.1% between 18 and 24, 30.6% between 25 and 44 and 26.0% between 45 and 64 years old. 11.7% of the population were 65 or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 women there were 90 men.
The average income of households was 60,486 US dollars , and the median income for a family 70,029 dollars.
