Clifton Forbes

Clifton Forbes (born February 18, 1946 , † March 1, 2010 in Kingston ) was a Jamaican athlete who set two world records with the 4-by-100-meter relay .

At the British Empire and Commonwealth Games in Kingston in 1966 , he reached the quarterfinals over 220 yards, with the 4-by-440-yard relay, he finished fourth. The following year he reached eighth place in the 400-meter run at the Pan American Games in Winnipeg , the Jamaican 4-by-400-meter relay won the bronze medal.

At the 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico City, he reached the 400 meter run with 45.75 seconds, the fastest time of his career, but was eliminated in the quarter-finals. The Jamaican 4 x 100 meter relay set a new world record in 38.6 seconds with Errol Stewart , Michael Fray , Clifton Forbes and Lennox Miller . In the semifinals, the four Jamaicans increased their world record to 38.3 seconds, the electronic timekeeping showed 38.39 seconds; In the finals, 38.47 seconds were only enough for fourth place behind the relays from the United States, Cuba and France, the US-Americans increased the world record to 38.24 seconds.

Forbes made his last major appearance as an active athlete at the British Commonwealth Games in 1970 . In 46.19 seconds he finished seventh over 400 meters, the 4 x 400 meter relay reached fifth place.

After his active career, Forbes took care of the Jamaican team at major international events for many years as a team manager. He worked for a telecommunications company.
