The station was put into operation on February 15, 1930 with the opening of the section from Odéon to Place d'Italie under the name "Cluny".
On September 2, 1939, the station was closed as part of the savings measures established by the beginning of the Second World War . After the war, due to the proximity of the neighboring stations, it was initially not re-used.
After an extensive renovation, the station, decorated with mosaics by Jean René Bazaine , reopened on December 15, 1988. The artist put the signatures of famous Sorbonne students on the vaulted ceiling. The opening of the nearby Saint-Michel - Notre-Dame station, which is served by the RER B and C lines, was decisive for the restart.
The underground station has an elliptical cross-section. It has three tracks, each with a side platform on the main line. The middle track does not have a platform, it is an operating line that leads from Maubert - Mutualité to line 4 . There is an exit towards the street at both ends of the station.

Conventional MF 67 series trains run on Line 10 . Between 1975 and 1994 trains of the MA series ran , before that of the Sprague-Thomson type.
Remarks
- ↑ Unlike the Quartier de la Sorbonne, the Quartier Latin is not a district according to the Paris administrative structure
- ↑ The provisional route from Place Monge to Place d'Italie (from March 7, 1930 to Porte de Choisy ) was abandoned on April 26, 1931, and line 7 has been running this section since then
