Coby Brown

Coby Brown (born 1974 in Brookline , Massachusetts ) is an American composer and singer-songwriter .

Life

Brown learned to play the guitar in his youth. During his studies at Trinity College in Hartford (majoring in literature, minor in the performing arts), he began to play regularly with other musicians and to write songs. In 1997 he moved to New York City and a few years later founded the Coby Brown Group, with which he released the album Homesick . Another album, Truth Shines , recorded the group in 2001, but found no label to release. After the group broke up, Brown released parts of the material in the form of an EP.

Brown began performing in Los Angeles and formed the band Coby Brown and the 11:11's with other musicians. With their song Just the same they won the John Lennon Songwriting Contest in the Rhythm and Blues category and had a television appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show . In 2007 they released the EP Time is Now . In 2008, Brown, influenced by surviving cancer, recorded the album Stars & Curses in Los Angeles . French Exit followed in 2013 and was self-published by 4East Records and was nominated for the Independent Music Award in the category of best indie / folk singer-songwriter album. Brown's Song Hospital was covered by the Counting Crows on Underwater Sunshine .

Brown started working for the film industry in the early 2000s and was very successful here. He wrote the score for The Poetry of Infinite (Sony 2016), a biography of the Indian math genius SK Ramanujan , and the music for the KCET documentary series Blue Sky Metropolis . This series was directed by Peter Jones and is part of the PBS series Summer of Space , which is intended to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the landing of Apollo 11 .

In 2017/2018 Brown recorded his fourth album Everything Looks Different To Me Now (2020) with producer Justin Stanley at Matter Music and Boulevard Recording in Hollywood. The musicians David Immergluck (Counting Crows, Camper Van Beethoven ), Tyler Chester, John Flaugher, Aaron Redfield, Michael Jerome and Ollie Krauss were also involved.

Coby Brown is currently (2020) writing the music for DisConnected , a series that will be shown during the coronavirus quarantine in Rwanda, India, the UK and the US.

family

His older brother Matt Brown is a director and writer. While filming his film Ropewalk on Nantucket , Coby Brown met Ever Carradine in 1999 , whom he married there in 2005. They have a daughter, born in 2010, and a son, born in 2015.
