Coccidiphila Riedli is a butterfly ( moth ) from the family of cosmopterigidae (Cosmopterigidae).
features
The moths reach a wingspan of 6 to 9 millimeters. The forewings are yellow ocher. The Costa loader is gray from the base of the wing to beyond the second third. There is a dark gray spot in the anal fold. The wing base is dorsal ocher yellow. The very oblique outward line is very broad.
In the males, the right brachium is longer than the tegumen . It is strongly curved and has a fin-like appendage distally . The left brachium is very small. The very narrow blades have a widened, spatula-shaped cucullus that is curved upwards. The valvellae are slightly curved and expand greatly distally. The narrow and pointed apex is bent away at right angles. The aedeagus is slightly beveled at the tip.
In females, the rear edge of the 7th sternite has a large, U-shaped bulge, the side edges are rounded and thorny. The sterigma has large, triangular lobes on the sides. The anterior edge is concave , the posterior lobe rectangular. The corpus bursae is densely covered with sickle-shaped comb structures.
Similar species
Coccidiphila riedli differs from Coccidiphila gerasimovi , Coccidiphila ledereriella and Coccidiphila danilevskyi by the lack of dark gray scales at the base of the forewing inner margin . The species differs from Coccidiphila kasypinkeri in the absence of the yellow spot in the gray costal area.
distribution
Coccidiphila riedli is native to the Canary Islands ( Gran Canaria , Tenerife ).
biology
The caterpillars were found between dead leaves of Ceballosia fruticosa . It is believed that they also live on the Cape leadwort ( Plumbago capensis ). Butterflies were collected from February to April.
