Type : Cochlostoma apricum
Scientific name
Cochlostoma apricum
( Mousson , 1847)

Cochlostoma apricum , in German Savoyard snail , is a species of snail from the family of forest snails (Cochlostomatidae) in the order Architaenioglossa ("old bandworm")that lives on land.

features

The right-hand wound case is 7 to 10 mm high and 3.0 to 4.5 mm wide. It has 6 to 8 slightly convex turns, which are separated from each other by a flat seam. The last turn only rises a little. It is rounded at the base and occasionally forms a slight edge a little below the periphery. The surface is covered with very fine and regular ribs, about 9 to 10 ribs per millimeter. The housings therefore appear to the naked eye to be either shiny or iridescent. The ribs can also almost lose themselves and the surface is then almost smooth.

The mouth is pear-shaped in the frontal view. The mouth edge is only slightly bent on the outer edge and tapers thin, but can also be doubled. At the spindle and parietal edge it is bent a little wider. The cases are thin and translucent. The basic color is pale yellowish-brown with darker, reddish-brown spots that often condense into two spiraling bands on the last turn.

Geographical distribution and habitat

The distribution area is limited to a relatively small area in the western Alps, which stretches from southwestern Switzerland to the eastern French departments of Isère , Savoie and Haute-Savoie .

The animals live there in montane forests, in scree slopes and on and under rocks at around 400 to 900 m above sea level.

Taxonomy

The taxon was first described by Albert Mousson in 1847 as Cyclostoma apricum . Wilhelm Kobelt transferred it to the genus Cochlostoma , sub-genus Obscurella Clessin, 1889. Raven (1990) treated Obscurella as an independent genus. Most authors have not followed this. Serge Gofas and the Fauna Europaea lead the taxon again as Cochlostoma (Obscurella) apricum (Mousson, 1847). Cochlostoma (Obscurella) apricum is the type species of the (sub) genus Obscurella Clessin, 1889.
