Cochlostoma gracile , also uncommon in German, Zierliche Turmeckelschnecke , is a land-living snail from the family of the forest snail (Cochlostomatidae) in the order Architaenioglossa ("Old Bandzüngler").

features

The right-hand winding, relatively small case is 5.0 to 7.5 mm high and 2.8 to 3.2 mm wide. It is oblong-conical in shape with a pointed top and a relatively narrow base. It has 8 to 9 well arched, slowly and regularly growing coils, which are separated from each other by a deep seam. The last turn is rounded at the bottom and only rises a little. The housing is ribbed. The narrow, but sharp and slightly curved ribs are slightly oblique to the spiral axis. They weaken on the last turn, but then stand closer. The mouth is rounded to egg-shaped in the frontal view, is slightly oblique to the spiral axis and recedes below. The simple mouth rim is thin and ends sharply. It is broadly folded and drawn out slightly parietal and clearly ear-shaped in columellar form. The lid is comparatively thin and almost transparent. The housing is gray to horn-colored and translucent.

Geographical distribution and habitat

The distribution area of the species extends from south-east Austria to north-west Greece.

Taxonomy

The taxon was first described in 1849 by Ludwig Georg Karl Pfeiffer as Cyclostoma gracile . He attributed the taxon to Heinrich Carl Küster , who had collected the material from "Almissa" (now Omiš ) in "Dalmatia" (now Croatia ) and who apparently had added a manuscript name to this material. Wilhelm Kobelt assigned the taxon to the genus Cochlostoma for the first time in 1902 . The Fauna Europaea now lists the taxon as Cochlostoma (Turritus) gracile (Pfeiffer, 1849).

Some authors divide the species into the following subspecies:

  • Cochlostoma (Turritus) gracile gracile (Pfeiffer, 1849)
  • Cochlostoma (Turritus) gracile croatica (Pfeiffer, 1870)
  • Cochlostoma (Turritus) gracile gracillima (AJ Wagner, 1901)
  • Cochlostoma (Turritus) gracile martensianum (Möllendorff, 1873)
  • Cochlostoma (Turritus) gracile reitteri (O. Boettger, 1880)
  • Cochlostoma (Turritus) gracile stussineri (AJ Wagner, 1897)
  • Cochlostoma (Turritus) gracile subaiorum (Schütt, 1977)
