Cochlostoma waldemari , uncommon in German also known as the tip of the forest cap snail, is a species of snail from the family of the forest cap snail (Cochlostomatidae) in the order Architaenioglossa ("Old Bandzüngler").

features

The right-hand wound , conical to oblong-conical housing of Cochlostoma (Turritus) waldemari is 5.7 to 7.8 mm high and 2.7 to 3.6 mm wide. It has 9 to 10 (8 to 9) well arched turns with a broad base and threads rapidly tapering towards the apex. The turns are separated from each other by a deep seam. The last turn is rounded to slightly shouldered. It rises to half or a third of the penultimate turn and is widened towards the mouth. The noticeably protruding mouth seam is turned slightly outwards and forms an inwardly directed brim on the inner edge. The edge of the mouth can be slightly eyeleted at the spindle and parietal edge.

The surface is covered with high, strong ribs that are dense and regular. The ribs are crooked or irregularly curved. On the last two turns they weaken, become denser and can almost completely disappear up to the mouth. The housing is monochrome reddish to yellowish horn-colored. The shells of living animals are frosted blue-gray-whitish, especially on the upper turns.

Geographical distribution and habitat

The distribution area extends from south-east Austria via Slovenia to Croatia. The species is not found in the coastal regions, but clearly inland. It lives on or on rocks, but also at the foot of the rocks in the grass. In the Karawanken the species occurs from about 600 to 1200 m above sea level.

Taxonomy

The taxon was described by Anton Josef Wagner in 1897 as Pomatias (Auritus) waldemari . Wilhelm Kobelt transferred them to the genus Cochlostoma , subgenus Auritus . Today the species is listed as Cochlostoma (Turritus) waldemari (AJ Wagner, 1897) by Fauna Europaea .
