The Codex Basilensis ( Gregory-Aland no. E e or 07 , from Soden ε 55) is a Greek manuscript of the four Gospels , which is dated to the 8th century. It consists of the four Gospels ( Matthew , Mark , Luke and John ) on 318 sheets of parchment written on one column. The handwriting is incomplete.

Parts of the Gospel according to Luke are missing from the Codex (1.69–2.4; 3.4–15; 12.58–13.12; 15.8–20; 24.47 – fin). The format is 23 × 16.5 cm, the text is in a column with 21 lines. The capital letters are about the same size as those in the Codex Bezae . Accents as well as alcohol asper and lenis are available. It contains lists of the κεφαλαια ( content ), κεφαλαια ( chapters ), ammonian sections and the Eusebian canon .

The Codex Basilensis represents the Byzantine text and is assigned to Category V. It is one of the best manuscripts of the Byzantine texts and belonged to group E together with the Codex Nanianus and the Codex Athous Dionysius .

Mark 2: 9-14

Cardinal Johannes von Ragusa brought this manuscript to Basel and donated it to the Dominican monastery. In 1559 it was incorporated into the university library.

As its name suggests, the codex is kept in the Basel University Library (AN III 12).
