Ludwig Hamann

Ludwig Hamann (born November 14, 1867 in Schwerin , † March 2, 1929 in Berlin ) was a German writer , journalist and publisher .

Life

Ludwig Hamann attended the Realgymnasium. He then worked as a bookseller in Magdeburg and Dresden , and later as a journalist. From 1894 he worked as a publisher in Leipzig . In 1900 he founded the magazine Musikwoche . Hamann later went to Stargard in Pomerania as editor of the Stargarder Zeitung .

Hamann was a versatile author. He wrote on subjects as diverse as The Journey to Pharaoh's Land and Conventional Lies in Bookstores . His flea memoirs in 3 volumes are remarkable . His historical novel Die Klosterhexe von Marienfließ and the fall of the Pomeranian ducal family (1910) takes place in Pomerania ; it deals with the fate of Sidonia von Borcke , who was convicted of witchcraft and executed in 1620.

Hamann provided the libretto for the secular oratorio Das Lied von der Tanne op. 11 (1908) for the composer Eugen Lasch (1870–1911), who worked in Pyritz in Pomerania and Stargard from 1904 ; In 1910/11, Lasch also set Hamann's little slumber song (“When my child doesn't want to sleep”) as a piano song in music.
