Cody James Thompson (* 11. January 1996 ) is an American American football poker players. He plays on the position of wide receiver for the Seattle Seahawks in the National Football League (NFL). He previously played college football for the Toledo Rockets of the University of Toledo in the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA).

Career

High school

In the High School Thompson played football and basketball. As a sophomore , he caught 48 passes for 865 yards and 11 touchdowns as a wide receiver . As a junior he played on the position of quarterback , throwing 1,574 yards and 22 touchdowns and running for 1,001 yards and 14 touchdowns. He was elected to the second team All-Conference . As a senior , he threw for 1,883 yards and 17 touchdowns and ran for 1,139 yards and 22 touchdowns. In addition, he was also a punter and scored 44.6 yards per punt . For this he was appointed to the Second-Team All-Conference and Second-Team All-District .

college

Recruitment and Players

Thompson was a low-profile college gamer. In the 247Sports Composite Rating , a summary of all popular, publicly available rankings, it was only ranked 3,233 of all players in its class and ranked 413 among wide receivers. His only scholarship was offered to him by the University of Toledo .

Thompson has been attending the University of Toledo since 2014, where he played college football for the Toledo Rockets . In his first year he played in all 13 games, catching four passes. As a sophomore , he caught 37 passes for 825 yards. Its average of 22.3 yards per catch was the third best value in the country. In 2016, he caught 64 passes for 1,269 yards and eleven touchdowns. The 1,269 yards was a new school record for yards earned in one season. His average of 19.8 yards per catch was the ninth best in the country and his average of 97.6 yards per game was the seventeenth best in the country. For this he was elected to the first team All- MAC . In 2017 he became team captain and was a semi-finalist for the Campbell Award . Thompson caught 28 balls for 537 yards before sustaining a season-ending leg injury in game five against Eastern Michigan . That season he won the Mid-American Conference with the Rockets . By participating in the Championship Game it was now possible for Thompson to have the 2017 season recognized as a Medical Redshirt . In December 2017, Thompson announced that he would be staying with the Rockets for another season. In the game against Eastern Michigan during the 2018 season, he made his 26th career touchdown, breaking another school record. As a senior he caught a total of 48 passes for 647 yards and ten touchdowns, expanding his record to a total of 30 touchdowns. Again he was elected to the first team All-MAC .

After his career with the Rockets, he received an invitation to the East-West Shrine Game, which he accepted. He also received an invitation to the NFL Combine .

Professional career

On the Combine, Thompson jumped 38.5 "(98 cm) high and 119" (3.03 m) wide. In the 40 yard dash he ran a time of 4.57 seconds, the 20 yard shuttle he ran in 4.03 seconds and the 3 cone drill in 6.87 seconds. He also completed the 60-yard shuttle in 11.39 seconds and 19 reps of the bench press with 225 lbs (102 kg). Thompson was one of only four receivers that participated in the 60-yard shuttle. In this and the 20-yard shuttle he was the best of all wide receivers, and in the bench press he was the sixth best in his position. In the 40 yard dash, Thompson finished 27th out of 37 on his position.

After he was not selected in the 2019 NFL Draft , the Kansas City Chiefs signed him . As part of the final squad reduction, however, he was dismissed before the start of the season. However, he was then accepted into the Practice Squad. On October 29, 2019, he was fired by the Chiefs, but already signed up for the Practice Squad by the Seattle Seahawks the next day . He was released on November 5, 2019. On November 19, 2019, the Cincinnati Bengals signed Thompson to the Practice Squad. On January 9, 2020, the Seattle Seahawks signed him again to the Practice Squad.

style

Thompson is described as a good leader with an excellent work ethic. His start is considered excellent and his behavior after the catch is praised. Thompson is considered to be physically strong, very focused and is credited with having excellent hands and good ball tracking. His route running is also praised, but his limited speed is warned.
