Celestine Hochbrucker

Coelestin Hochbrucker, OSB (born January 10, 1727 in Tagmersheim (near Donauwörth), † 1809 in Freising ) was a German organist , harpist and composer . He was the nephew, his father the brother of the harp maker Jacob Hochbrucker .

Hochbrucker initially enjoyed a wide range of training (German, Latin, music) at home and then studied in Neuburg an der Donau and Freising . In Freising he became a composition student of Placidus von Camerloher . He entered the Weihenstephan Benedictine monastery in 1747 . In 1752 he was ordained there. His biblical oratorio The Jews in the Captivity of Manassa was premiered in Freising in 1774 . Hochbrucker was considered a very good organist and harpist. Apparently his compositions have not survived.
