Coffin Rock (reference Title: Rendezvous with a killer ) is an Australian thriller by Rupert Glasson from the year 2009 , in which a paranoid Stalker accesses brutal means to achieve his goal.

action

The married couple Rob and Jess live in a tranquil coastal town in Australia. Since her desire to have children remains unfulfilled, Rob has his sperm examined in a fertility clinic in the nearest town. Jess accompanies him. The receptionist on duty, Evan, is impressed by Jess and is convinced that she is the right woman for him. He looks for work in the coastal town where his chosen one lives; He finds out their address from the registration register. After initial small talk encounters, Evan can soften her heart with a baby kangaroo he is raising in his trailer. They get closer and have sex. Rob's buddy Benny watches the two of them, but keeps what he has seen to himself for the time being.

Jess deeply regrets the slip in which she got drunk, especially since Evan turns out to be a stalker in the following years. What is more, the one-night stand leads to pregnancy. The child she wanted so badly now seems to be of the wrong man. Rob assumes he is the father and is very happy about the long-awaited addition to the family.

Jess tries several times to persuade Evan to let go of her. The choleric Evan gets violent against Jess for the first time. She can no longer stand the pressure of having to keep the terrible secret to herself and confides in her friend Megan. When Megan catches the stalker at Jess' house one day, he knocks her out and takes the seriously injured woman to his motor home.

Since Rob has no idea what is going on between Evan and his wife, he offers Evan a job in his shop and even takes him on a fishing trip, where Evan turns out to be a psychopath who has no control over his aggressions. Rob then avoids Evans company, which of course suits Jess very much. Evan - enraged by Rob's rejection - knocked him out in the presence of Jess . To protect Rob's life, she offers Evan to come with him. Evan sees himself at the goal of his dreams. He is certain that he has conceived the child that Jess is carrying. He wants to start a family with Jess.

When they spend the night in the car after a few kilometers of driving near a cliff, Jess secretly releases the handbrake. As expected by Jess, the car slowly rolls towards the abyss. Shortly before the crash, Jess jumps out of the car and runs to the street, where her husband already drives towards her, who had gone in search of his wife after he found the horribly damaged Megan in Evans' trailer and had to save his friend Benny's life - Evan had doused it with a flammable liquid and set it on fire. Only then did Rob realize how dangerous Evan really is. Besides, Benny had finally told him who Jess was expecting the child from.

Rob drives full throttle towards Evan, who is just stepping out of the embankment to kill Jess with a stone. Evan is seriously injured on impact. It can be assumed that he will not survive.

reception

Coffin Rock received largely positive reviews.

The film service believes that Coffin Rock is an “intensely played” psychodrama that would develop the “initially contemplative plot very effectively” and “convincingly describe the state of mind of a village community”.

In the opinion of Andrea Niederfriniger from Filmreporter.de, the director succeeds in introducing the characters quite well ("good figure drawing").

Christian Ade from Filmtipps.at praises the convincing play of the then 20-year-old young actor Sam Parsonson. He also thinks Coffin Rock is "formally successful" and "excitingly staged".
