Lisa Chappell

Lisa Irene Chappell (born October 18, 1968 in Auckland ) is a New Zealand actress and singer . She gained international fame with the role of Claire McLeod in the Australian drama television series McLeod's Daughters .

Career

The in Auckland -born Lisa Chappell made her acting debut at the age of 19 years in the New Zealand television series Gloss in which she played the spoiled Chelsea Redfern in 1987, which she received the first recognition. This was followed by a guest role in the police series Shark in the Park , where she was seen in 13 episodes between 1989 and 1991. Chappell then moved to Sydney, Australia , where she also appeared in various guest and supporting roles in television series such as Desperate Remedies , in which she played the lesbian Anne Cooper, or Hercules and films such as Jack Brown Genious .

So far active without acting training, she attended the acting workshop The Journey at the Actor Center in Sydney in 1999 . In 2001 she auditioned for a supporting role in the new television series McLeod's Daughters , but was offered the lead role of Claire McLeod. Lisa Chappell played this role from 2001 to 2003 in three seasons alongside Bridie Carter . Chappell left the series at her own request in order to concentrate on her musical career.

In 2005 the actress started working on her first album When Then is Now . This album was released in Germany on July 14, 2006. The producer was Rick Price, a successful Australian singer and songwriter. Parallel to her musical career, Lisa Chappell continued to take on guest roles as an actress, for example in eight episodes of the Stingers series and in 2006 she appeared in front of the camera with Claudia Karvan and Rebecca Gibney for the television film Small Claims - The Reunion .

From 2007, Lisa Chappell took on the female lead alongside David Downer in a stage production of Educating Rita . The play was performed on a theater tour across Australia. In the same year, the actress was also seen as the mother of an adolescent in the short film drama Crossbow , which is about sex and drugs.

Directed by Rupert Glasson was Chappell in 2009 for the thriller Coffin Rock alongside Robert Taylor and Terry Camilleri on camera. Also in 2009 she again took on a role in a television series. In The Cult she embodied the character Sophie McIntyre alongside Dwayne Cameron . She was also seen in the short film Be careful . The 12-minute film also features some of Lisa Chappell's songs from her debut album.

In 2011, Chappell took on a role in the German TV film The Magic of New Zealand , a film adaptation of Emily Richard's novel Duncan's Lady . John Delbridge was the director, Oliver Mommsen and Tessa Mittelstaedt their fellow actors. In the same year Lisa Chappell returned to the theater. Together with Will Hall she appeared in the play Mike and Virginia on the stage of the Herald Theater in her hometown Auckland. From October 26 to November 5, 2017, Chappell performed alongside Paul Glover in Jim Cartwright's two-person play Two at the Pump House Theater in Auckland. In 2018 Chappell performed in Shortland Street the Musical in Auckland . In 2020 she will return to the TV series Shortland Street after staring in another role there in the 90s.

Private

After Chappell joined the cast in McLeod's Daughters , she became a vegetarian .

In December 2001 she married Chris Taylor, whom she had previously met at the birthday party of her series colleague Rachael Carpani . The couple separated in 2005.
